Hot Toddy

Hot Toddy

(serves 1)

Nothing beats a cold better than tea…laced with whiskey.  My old vocal coach used to recommend a hot toddy to soothe a throat and to help a sick singer knock themselves out at night to rest up for a big performance.  But who has to be a singer to savor such a soothing winter classic.  This is a little jazzier than chicken soup, less potent than an Irish coffee, and just the trick for the winter blues.

1 tea bag (lemon zinger is my favorite for its deep lemon flavor and red color)

1 tablespoon honey

2 ounces whiskey

1 cinnamon stick

1 wedge lemon, squeezed

3 cloves-studded into lemon wedge

In a small pot boil 1 cup water and add 1 teabag.  Steep until thoroughly mixed then add in honey and stir to dissolve.  In a heat proof glass, add whiskey and top with tea.  Finish with a cinnamon stick and lemon wedge studded with cloves.  Sip slowly and enjoy!
